Q & A

Q & A

Q - WHAT ARE THE OUTER BORDERS OF THE SLI?
A - (Part 1) - The north-south borders of the Silver Lake Institute are between Camp Road and Chapman Road. The east-west borders of the Silver Lake Institute are from the current and former lands of the Charcoal Corral on the east and Silver Lake on the west, but the eastern line is not straight and not easily defined here. The southern border of the Village of Perry is to the center of Camp Road. From the center of Camp Road to the southern right of way of the same Camp Road is under the jurisdiction of the Town of Castile, NY (originally a part of the Silver Lake Institute before agreement was reached for the Town of Castile to take control and ownership of it).
A - (Part 2) - Historically, Asbury Camp & Retreat Center was SLI property. In 1959 it was deeded over to the WNY Conference but remained within the SLI borders and tax base. In 2016, the UpperNY Conference negotiated with the SLI and received court approval to be separated and removed from the SLI grounds. There are still individually owned lots on Lakeside Ave. that have joined SLI and are now "little islands" of the Silver Lake Institute and therefore under its jurisdiction.

Q - HOW CAN THE WALKER ROAD SECTION BE BOTH
THE VILLAGE OF PERRY AND THE TOWN OF CASTILE?
A - The Perry Village's borders extend beyond the Town of Perry and actually into the Town of Castile--an arrangement which gave the Village of Perry the long stretch of lake shoreline along Walker, Lake, and Euclid Avenues in the Walker Tract. Therefore, Camp Road's southern right of way is the dividing line between the Silver Lake Institute and the southern lane of Camp Road belonging to the Town of Castile, NY. The center of Camp Road is where the Village of Perry jurisdiction begins, but both the Silver Lake Institute and the Walker Road section of the Village of Perry BOTH sit within the land area whose borders are within the Town of Castile, NY. One does not need to know borders since the County's Emergency Number is centralized with all Fire and Emergency Departments ensuring that callers will receive more than one response to a Fire or Emergency call.

Q - WHAT IS THE COUNTY EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBER

Q - WHERE DO I GO TO WITNESS THE TOWN BOARD MEETINGS OF CASTILE?
A - The main Municipal Building at 12 N. Main St. in Castile.

Q - WHY IS THERE NO HOME DELIVERY OF U.S. MAIL?
A -  99% of all roads leading to where people live in the SLI are both Private Roads (not public) and too narrow for two-way traffic.  The P.O. does not travel on Private Roads. Perry Avenue, now a municipal road, but used to be a private road belonging to the SLI. Mail delivery on Perry Avenue would give it another zip code and U.S. Postal policy is only one zip code to an area.

Q - HOW DO I RECEIVE MY U.S. MAIL?
A -
A free post office box will be assigned to an SLI property owner, upon request, for the purpose of receiving mail.

Q - IN WHAT SCHOOL DISTRICT DO MY CHILDREN ATTEND SCHOOL?
A -
Children of SLI attend the Perry School District. Therefore, voting for school board officers takes place in Perry. The Perry Library is funded as an addition to the Perry School Taxes. Voting for Library officials takes place at the Perry Library. The Perry Library is equipped with internet research capability; the Library in Castile does not have internet research capability for pubic use.
