SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT UNTIL 6:15PM EST THU ...MIXED PRECIPITATION AND STRONG WINDS ACROSS THE REGION THIS EVENING... A BAND OF STEADY LAKE EFFECT RAIN WILL EXTEND FROM LAKE ERIE ACROSS THE NORTHERN SUBURBS OF BUFFALO TO NIAGARA AND WESTERN ORLEANS COUNTY THROUGH 5:30 THIS EVENING. THIS BAND OF RAIN WILL SLOWLY PUSH SOUTHEAST AND INTENSIFY BETWEEN 5:30 AND 7...WITH ITS AXIS PUSHING ACROSS BUFFALO AND EXTENDING TO BATAVIA. AFTER 7 PM...THE SWATH OF MODERATELY HEAVY RAIN WILL PUSH INTO THE HILLS SOUTH OF BUFFALO AND BATAVIA WHERE IT WILL QUICKLY MIX WITH AND CHANGE TO WET SNOW. A SLUSHY INCH OR SO ACCUMULATION CAN BE EXPECTED OVER THE HIGHER TERRAIN BY 9 PM. A BIT OF THUNDER AND LIGHTNING CANNOT BE RULED OUT. THE PRECIPITATION EARLY THIS EVENING WILL BE ACCOMPANIED BY SOUTHWEST WINDS THAT WILL GUST TO 40 MPH AT TIMES. WINDS WILL SHIFT TO THE NORTHWEST AS WE PUSH DEEP INTO THE EVENING.
